Metalsmithing Workshop Scheduled

On May 14, 2013 Aberdeen Bead Company will be hosting guest instructor Deb Guess of Soul Whispers Arts for a workshop focusing on metalsmithing in jewelry design. No prior metalwork experience required. More details to be released but we wanted to get the date to you so you can “save the date!”

Twisted Chunky Bracelet: Metalsmithing Workshop with Deb Guess

We are so excited to host instructor Deb Guess again for a metalsmithing workshop.

Sign Up now for the March 7, 2013 workshop. 6-9pm

Using several different varieties and gauges of wire, we will learn

a short-cut method for creating beautifully twisted links. We

will then use chunks of solder to create bold hammered

connections. Learn to make your own clasp and to wire-wrap

beaded dangles for embellishing.

No metalsmithing or jewelry design experience required!

Workshop fee of $60 includes materials and use of tools. You may bring your own tools if you wish.

Workshop policy:

• Register for workshops in-person or by-phone. Full payment is required at time of registration by cash, debit, or credit card.

• Materials and tools are included with workshop fee for this session.

• Workshops are designed for students 15-years and older.

• Minimum 6: Maximum 10 participants

• Please be prompt to class. We kindly ask that you do not bring guests or small children to workshops.

• Workshops are non-refundable unless we must cancel a workshop.

• If we must cancel a workshop, a full refund by check or store credit will be issued.

Artist, Beaders & Crafters’ Night at Aberdeen Bead Company

January 24, 2013 7-9

Join us for our free monthly gathering of artist and crafters of all mediums. This month we have a special event planned! Follow along as local artist, Lucy from “Dizzy Lizzy Designs,” instructs us on the basics of the traditional off-loom beadweaving technique, the Peyote Stitch. Supply kits will be available for purchase at the store.

We will be working a two color pattern with a multi-strand clasp, so this is not the actual bracelet design that we will make. However, the basic stitch structure is the same.

Aberdeen Bead Company is starting an ABC Community!

What is an ABC Community you might ask?

There are many definitions of community, but for ABC it means a group of people with a common interest – CREATING.

We are looking for artists, beaders, & crafters to create a a community in downtown Aberdeen. We want to bring more arts & culture to the historic neighborhood & advocate the use of creativity for the improvement of not only Aberdeen & Moore County, but the world. “Craft is a way of rejoicing, passing time, meditating, harnessing power, sharing and keeping creative forces in motion.” craftism.com Building a craft community is a way for us to connect with people, to be inspired by one another and share & grow in our own creativity.

Learn to use a micro-torch, flux,

& solder to attach metal to metal & create a pendant & a pair of earrings.

Techniques taught will include cutting & filing metals,

use of solder, flux, & a micro torch, as well as cleaning & finishing soldered pieces
